Vibrating Wire Strain Gauges for Bridge, Tunnel & Dam Monitoring: Complete Selection Guide

Monitoring Software That Grows With Your Project
Most monitoring projects start small and grow in pieces. You may begin with a few tiltmeters, then add strain gauges, weather stations, and maybe a robotic total station. At that point switching between four different software tools becomes a daily headache. Kingmach built its integrated monitoring system software platform to solve exactly that: it accepts data from our geotechnical instruments and common third-party sensors, presents readings on a single screen, and keeps the learning curve flat enough that field engineers can train on it in a morning.
Technical Detail
The platform pulls live measurements via 4G, LoRa, or local network, then logs everything into a time-series database. When a reading crosses a threshold you set, the system triggers email or SMS alerts. We designed the alert logic to use multi-step confirmation so site crews are not woken up by a single spike. Reports take a few clicks—daily summaries, displacement vectors, or export to CSV for your own analysis. For projects with many sensor types, the mapping module overlays instrument positions on site plans or satellite images. Since Kingmach manufactures the hardware, there is no finger-pointing between sensor supplier and software vendor; the same support team handles both. Data access works through a web portal and a mobile app. The app is stripped down for on-site checks, while the web version gives full control over projects, users, and analysis tools. We learned from early customers that operators want different permission levels—a technician might only see live readings, while a project manager can export raw data and adjust alarm thresholds. These role-based views are built in, not added as an upgrade feature. Custom dashboards are available, but we found most users prefer a clean default layout with the ability to hide unused channels. The platform runs on Kingmach's cloud servers or can be deployed on a local machine for sensitive projects, and there is no per-user license fee.

It reads data from our full catalog of instruments, but we also built importers for common third-party protocols like SDI-12 and Modbus. If your existing sensors output data in a format we have not seen before, we can usually write a parser within a few weeks.
Yes. The standard setup uses Kingmach’s cloud, but for projects with cybersecurity requirements we offer an on-premise option. It runs on a Windows or Linux server you provide, and your IT team maintains access control.
Multi-level thresholds with rate-of-change checks. For example, you could set a yellow alert if a crack meter moves 2 mm in an hour, and a red alert if cumulative movement exceeds 10 mm. Each alarm type can have its own notification list and contact method.
Licensing is based on the number of connected sensor channels, not individual users. There are no hidden fees for adding team members, and the cost scales with the size of your monitoring project.
The platform can display IP camera streams alongside sensor data. This feature is included at no extra cost if your cameras support RTSP. It is commonly used to visually verify situations after an alarm triggers.
